Dementia Care
It is a specialist type of care for those people who have been diagnosed with a form of Dementia.
Our home is registered for this type of care and the staff is trained to support and care for dementia residents.
There are many types of dementia, some more common than others, and all our staff, regardless of their role, complete a Dementia Awareness course and are familiar with the symptoms, challenges or needs of people affected by this.
Some of these symptoms for example can be loss of memory, confusion, or problems with speech and understanding. Whatever it might be, our staff are fully trained and able to care for residents suffering from most forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s, and they are aware of the many progressive stages of the disease and how to help them cope through this illness.
Such help includes, but is not limited to:
Assistance with waking and preparing for the day or preparing for bed
Bathing or showering
Applying lotions and creams as required
Oral hygiene (brushing teeth, denture care etc.)
Applying make-up, help with hair styling
Support with shaving
Helping to the toilet
Assistance at mealtimes as required
Ensuring residents have the opportunity for social interaction with others, as per their wishes
Making sure that residents are well hydrated and taking necessary fluids
